Tips for perfect quarter marks
If you’re looking to get perfect quarter marks this season, follow our top tips…
- Use Quarter Marker – this liquid has been designed to set and hold quarter marks all day long – just spray onto the area, mark and that’s it!
If you’re not using Quarter Marker, you’ll need to wet the area with a spray bottle, sponge or brush. Getting the coat wet helps produce better results.
- Depending on the type of design you want, you may already have the tools you need! A body brush is ideal for broad stripes and sharks teeth, and a cut down men’s comb or mane and tail comb can be used to make a great checker board pattern. If you’re looking for a more detailed design, you may need to invest in a stencil.
- Make sure your quarter marks are even on both sides – quarter marks are meant to enhance your horse’s assets, so making him look odd behind isn’t going to help!
- Practice makes perfect – as with so many things, the more times you do it, the more confident you’ll be, so perfect your technique at home before you need to do it ‘for real’!
