First aid for bites and rubs

Unless you wrap your horse in bubble wrap or cotton wool, the chances are that he’s going to incur a minor injury at least once in his life. The main thing with any kind of wound is to assess it quickly and keep it clean. Some wounds do need veterinary attention, and getting this promptly can reduce your horse’s discomfort, complications, healing time and, potentially, expense too. For minor wounds and scrapes, a well stocked first aid kit can make all the difference. We have a great range of horse first aid products on our website, but, for minor bites and rubs, here are our top five…

Aloe Vera GelAloe Vera Gel soothes the skin, is easy to use, aids natural recovery and is ideal for issues such as minor grazes and rubs.

Equi-Balm Skin Conditioner is multipurpose, non-sting and water repellent too! The balm helps to maintain skin health and can be used on itchy areas, dry skin, cuts, grazes and more.

MSM Cream is a first aid kit must have as it has so many uses! The cream, which also contains aloe vera, zinc, castor oil, tea tree oil, lavender oil and more, helps to soothe minor skin conditions and acts as a barrier in muddy conditions and encourages hair regrowth too.

Tea Tree Mist is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and can be used on the skin and even the hooves! It’s ideal for cuts, bites, skin infections and even hoof issues caused by bacteria. It’s easy to apply and can be sprayed onto the wound, helping to keep it clean and support natural recovery.

Wound GelTotal Care Wound Gel helps to support recovery and prevents infection at the same time as keeping the wound hydrated. The gel contains silver ions, shown to kill 99% of bacteria, in addition to MSM, aloe vera, chamomile oil, tea tree oil, echinacea herbal extract, elderberry extract and allantoin.
