What are probiotics?
We hear about them on the television, we include them in our supplements…but what are probiotics and what do they do?
Probiotics is a general term for ‘friendly’ bacteria. These bacteria can help to support healthy digestion through balancing the microflora, promote immunity, aid the absorption of nutrients and support general health. The body comes ‘equipped’ with a lot of friendly bacteria, but some issues can compromise the numbers, such as illness, stress, antibiotic treatment and more. Levels can be replenished by adding probiotics to the diet- whether this is through a complete feed with added probiotics or as a supplement.
We produce two equine probiotic supplements, and many of our broad spectrum supplements contain probiotics (see our blog here). We also make probiotics for dogs and cats…
For horses…
Inner Balance Probiotics can be fed to horses and foals, added to drinking water or in feed. The supplement contains lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium in addition to bio-mos oligosaccharide. It can be used when needed, during times of stress or on a daily basis. The ingredients in Inner Balancer Probiotics have a special coating that withstands the acidic environment of the stomach, to ensure the probiotics get to their desired location. Find out more here.
Micro-Flora Balance provides fast acting support for intestinal balance, and is delivered via an oral syringe. The paste contains complex microbial cultures and is highly concentrated. Find out more here.
For dogs and cats…
Inner Balancer Probiotics contains lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium along with prebiotic fructo oligosaccharide. It can be used as a pick me up during times of stress or on a regular basis to ensure a good balance of friendly flora in the gut. Find out more here.
